Downtown Camera’s Photo Scavenger Hunt: Analog Ed. 2019 with Special Guest!
We are excited to announce, and invite you to participate in, Downtown Camera’s Photo Scavenger Hunt: Analog Edition 2019, with special guest Michael Bain of the legendary Harman Technology / ILFORD Photo.
This year also marks a special one for us as this will be our first Scavenger Hunt that we would like to open up to the whole world. That’s right! It doesn’t matter where you live! You just need to have the same film we are shooting with (Ilford HP5 -135 format – 24 exposures), email access and can send your film in time for us to process it!
To participate, please follow these steps;
Step 1: Purchase your relevant tickets online, complete your registration and either pick up your film from us (if you have chosen this option) or have it ready for the hunt
Step 2: On Tuesday April 16th at 10:00 am, we will release the Scavenger Hunt List of 15 challenges via e-mail for you to begin your hunt.
Step 3: By Tuesday April 23rd return your film to us for processing
We will then develop, scan and choose a short list of images from each challenge with the help of Michael Bain. They will be presented on May 3rd at our newly opened location at 89 Queen St. East at 7:00 pm. Attendees on this evening will have voting rights to determine which image best captured the challenge and Michael Bain will be here to award the prizes for each. For those who can’t attend, we will offer a slide show of the images and announce the winners of the challenges online at a later date.
On May 3rd, Michael will also be at our new location (89 Queen St. E) for a meet-and-greet from 5:30 pm and refreshments will be served during this time until the presentation. If you have any questions about Harman/Ilford he will be here to answer them and maybe someone can ask him if they have plans to make colour film too!!
We have geared our challenges to have novice and advance options. There are also “open to interpretation” challenges so all levels of photographers can participate. If you don’t have a camera, we are selling the Ilford One-Time-Use-Cameras at a special price for the hunt of $13.50+13% tax each for this event. Please contact us if you need to purchase one for the event.
Our goal is to have fun, share and to build our community of film photographers and to let others know film is still loved by many and for many reasons. Here are some pictures from our last scavenger hunt.

$30.00 -LOCAL HUNTER: Includes participation and registration for the event, one roll of Ilford HP5 -135 format – 24 exposures to be picked up and dropped off at Downtown Camera, developing of this roll, Electronic File Transfer of the images, refreshments and voting rights on May 3rd at OUR NEW LOCATION at 89 Queen St East.
$15.00 Non-Hunter Ticket: Includes refreshments and voting rights on May 3rd at OUR NEW LOCATION at 89 Queen St East
$30.00 ONLINE HUNTER (AT CANADIAN ADDRESS): Includes participation and registration for the event, an expedited shipping label for you to ship your film to us by April 23rd, developing of this roll and Electronic File Transfer of the images. You will be responsible for purchasing your own roll of Ilford HP5-135 format -24 exposures. Please note, if you would like your negatives back, you’ll have to arrange this with us.
$25.00 INTERNATIONAL ONLINE HUNTER: Includes participation and registration for the event, developing of this roll and Electronic File Transfer of the images. You will be responsible for purchasing your own roll of Ilford HP5-135 format-24 exposures and ensuring the film is delivered to us by the dead-line. Also, should you like your negatives back, you’ll have to arrange this with us.
